I am so excited about this!
Username: luvbarryfefe
Preferred Genres: teen/young adult themes, comedy, romance, drama, soaps, mystery/thriller, horror, paranormal stuff (vampires, werewolves, etc.). Superhero stuff. Marvel preferred, but I do like some DC shows and movies as well.
DNW Genres: non-fiction (reality tv), competition shows, heavy science fiction themes (not a big fan of movies like Star Wars).
Preferred Media Types: books (available in print form please; not just ebook!), movies, web series, and TV shows
DNW Media Types: podcasts, anime, kids' cartoons
General Likes: high drama. Make me emotional, make me cry, make me sit on the edge of the seat. Give me a mystery to unravel. Or make me laugh. I love programs and books that have me gripping my belly, tears of joy rolling down my face. I am a shipper at heart, so I'd love anything with a real rootable couple in it, although it's not necessary because oddly enough, I love crazy watching complete dysfunction too. Great acting and writing are important!
General DNWs: anything overly political or religious. Please entertain me. Not preach at me. Porn. Some sex scenes are just fine and welcomed even, but if most of the content is humpin' and grindin' don't include it please. Black & white programs. Old movies. I like vibrant techicolor haha
Fandom Preferences: Any size fandom is fine, though I do like discovering new things, so a smaller fandom is enjoyed and appreciated. Shipping potential, especially M/F and F/F couples, strong genfic culture. Some vids are nice, although it's not necessary either.
Requests for Content Warnings: Animal abuse. Graphic rape scenes.

Date: 2020-12-22 09:52 am (UTC)Highly recommend the mysteries of Ovidia Yu. I don't remember anything particularly graphic in the ones I've read. In the Aunty Lee's series, there is a lot of reference to food, which is absolutely my thing.
Also, cosy mysteries by Livia Day, who is the alter ego of Tansy Rayner Roberts, who does fabulous fairy tale reworkings, somewhat comic, as well as a bunch of other things. The Unreal Academia sound like they might be your kind of thing. Tansy has a patreon, and subscribing there, even at the lowest level for one month, gets you access to a number of works.
For teen/ya murder mystery, Karen McManus, in particular One of Us is Lying.
Other possibilities: Her Perilous Mansions - Sean Williams (middle grade mystery), You Brought me the Ocean - Alex Sanchez (graphic novel, coming of age, queer, superhero origin story)
The Bold Type on hulu
Date: 2020-12-24 05:11 am (UTC)Based on your likes of: teen/young adult themes, comedy, romance, and drama you might give The Bold Type a try. It's about three women who are best friends in their early-mid 20s living in NYC and working at a women's magazine, think Teen Vogue or Vogue. There is an epic m/f ship and also canon f/f. It's at times funny and fluffy and the drama of coming into adulthood and making mistakes and learning from those features prominently.
Watch the trailer here. The show is ongoing but has 4 seasons in the books and is on Hulu.

Date: 2020-12-27 04:52 pm (UTC)There is a lot of shipping fodder, both F/F and M/F, although a lot of people I like in the fandom ship the villain dads, which is another draw of the show. It's set ten years after a villainous team defeat the heroic JSA, and they move on with their lives and start raising their families, so you get to see what kind of parents they are, and how despite often being objectively bad people, they can still be very good parents.
The main character learns grows and develops over the course of the series, trying to rebuild the JSA with a bunch of teenagers from her school, but even though she's slightly annoying at first, she ends the series in a much better place than where she started.
